Welcome to my digital teaching portfolio. My name is Jasmine Bird, in this portfolio, you will learn more about my philosophy and thoughts on education and my professional experiences both inside and outside of the classroom.
Prior to pursuing an education and career in teaching, I worked in the fields of Applied Geography and Geospatial Information Systems (GIS). As a GIS specialist and instructor, my favorite days were those spent working with members of the scientific community and in educational outreach.
I moved to South Portland after living in Portland's Bayside neighborhood for fifteen years. Prior to that, I lived in Boston and Seattle.
I enjoy reading, gaming, hiking, museums, and cooking. My favorite hike is the Franconia Notch Range, and my favorite museum is the New York Tenement Museum. Like many of the young people I teach, I probably spend more time playing games than I should. I particularly enjoy simulation, strategy, and resource management games.
Below are my dogs; Daisy is on the left and Walter is on the right and on the far right is a photo of my husband and I visiting family in the UK.
Jasmine has many skills that cannot be taught in any teacher preparation program. She is a “natural teacher”. She demonstrates this in the way she responds to students, in her ability to self-reflect, and in her flexibility.
Ms. Bird easily and consistently adjusts plans to accommodate the needs of the learners in her classroom.
